Commonly called slipper orchids splendid plants to grow in the garden, usually flowering in late spring or early summer.
Plant in a cool, shady place in the garden in compost comprising of equal parts of peat, leaf mould and loam mixed with gritty sand.
May take a year to establish but well worth waiting for.
The Queen or Showy Lady Slipper orchid. One of the most attractive of the whole genus. Stunning with deep pink flowers. Withstands temperatures down to -40c. Easy to grow but seldom offered. Flowering time June. Height 30″ (75cm).
